Where can I buy a candle?

You can purchase candles via this website. With every candle you purchase you can leave a memory message which will be displayed in our online messages page.

If you prefer a traditional paper certificate rather than leave an online message, you can get your candles from the Slipway shop in Lyme Regis by the Cobb, Lyme Regis RNLI shop, Lyme Regis Bookshop in Broad Street and Uplyme Garage.

Which organisations are benefiting from the funds raised?

The proceeds of Candles on the Cobb 2022 will be split between Lyme Regis Youth Projects (50%) Cancer Research UK (25%) and British Red Cross (25%).
Find out more on our beneficiaries page.

If I buy a candle how will I know where it will be positioned?

Each candle is numbered and you can view the candle map to get an approximate location for where your candle will be positioned during the event.

What time does the event start?

Lighting of the candles is expected to start around 8pm on 28th August so you will need to allow plenty of time to arrive in Lyme and find a suitable place to park.

Where is best to view the event?

The best vantage point will be from Langmoor and Lister gardens which offers an elevated view of the Cobb.

Will I be able to go on to the Cobb and see my candle?

Unfortunately not, only lighting volunteers will be permitted on the Cobb. Each candle purchased is numbered so you will be able to see where your candle will be positioned on the night using the candle map.

Can I light my candle?

All candles are placed in position on the Cobb by our group of volunteers. Our volunteers, which include members from Lyme Regis Sailing Club, Scouts, local RNLI crew, Powerboat Club members and others, will begin lighting the candles at around 8pm on the night of the event.

I unable to attend, will I be able to see the event?

Yes, the event will be filmed and shared to our social media, website, YouTube and various other social media channels.

There are also Lyme Regis webcams where you should be able to get a live view of the event.

What happens to the tealight candles after the event?

Rotary Club of Lyme Regis, the organisers of Candles on the Cobb 2022, take their environmental responsibilities seriously and have teamed up with Exeter based The Recycling Candle Company to ensure the 5,000 tealight candles used for the event will be recycled and not enter landfill or incineration. A big thank you to Richard Hills-Ingyon and the team at The Recycling Candle Company who offered to collect the used tealights free of charge.

Who is organising the event?

The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis with assistance from other local organisations.
